Silver and Gold

There’s a Girl Scouts song about making new friends and keeping old friends and it always seemed somewhat strange that elementary-school-aged children had any concept of time in that respect — I mean at eight years old, aren’t really all of your friends new?

However as I’ve grown a little older, and hopefully (insert wink here) a little wiser, I increasingly see the value of cherishing the familiar while welcoming new opportunities, new challenges and new ideas.

That is especially true when I think about the work my team is entrusted with. This past year we were so fortunate to be able to continue strong partnerships with so many of our valued clients. Each year as the calendar pages turn, there are some projects that return right on schedule and finding new and innovative ways to celebrate those works are opportunities we savor. We mark the dates in our planning book and we keep idea clouds active, looking forward to when those projects return.

But then there is the rush that comes when we click with a new client, and they ask us to join them in bringing an idea that they love to life. We sketch and talk, jot notes down when we’re waiting in line for coffee and leave ourselves voicemail messages that start with, “Hey don’t forget we wanted to try…” It’s heady stuff.

The constant thread through it all is the faith our partners have in us. Whether the ideas that come to us are nearly fully-formed and in need of a bit of shaping, or if a client has a concept in need of creation, we are the lucky ones who get to sit down with our colors, textures, words and phrases and make magic happen.

To our partners, new and old, we thank you for making 2018 one that we will fondly remember. And here’s to a 2019 full of possibility.

It’s a grand life, this. Thank you for being part of it.
